Douglas Dean

Biografia

Douglas Dean is an English actor. He was born in Dover, but grew up in south-east London. He began acting at the age of 14, having been cast in a school production. From there he joined several amateur theatre companies, including the award-winning Miller Centre, in Caterham. He first worked professionally at the age of 20, with a repertory theatre company. His early work was almost all theatre-based and ranged from TIE tours, festival productions, provincial tours and open-air Shakespeare. His first TV appearance was in the HBO/BBC series 'Rome', though this was also his first experience of the cutting room floor, with most of his small role sacrificed in the final edit! Since then though he has collected a wide range of credits in feature films, TV, theatre and voiceover. Career highlights include a lead role in Terry Gilliam's 'The Wholly Family', which won Best Short at the 2011 European Film Awards in Berlin, appearances in both seasons of the acclaimed 'Medici' and working with Charles Dance and Lotte Verbeek on the forthcoming 'Book of Vision', which was co-produced by Terrence Malick and directed by Carlo Hintermann. Dean speaks fluent Italian and has played character roles in a number of successful Italian TV films or series, sharing screen time with the likes of Pierfrancesco Favino, Ennio Fantastichini, Filippo Nigro, Elena Sofia Ricci and Cristiana Capotondi. He is in demand as a voiceover artist. His narration on the documentary 'On the Trails of Glaciers' helped it win 18 prizes worldwide, and he can be heard on the English version of the website for the Italian soccer team AS Roma, as he provides commentary on their matches. He is returning to the stage in late March for the first time in nearly five years, and has three feature films slated for cinematic release this calendar year, as well as other projects in the pipeline.
